WHAT is the FKSC?
The Fort Knox Scouting Community (FKSC) was established
in the Spring of 2002 to fill a need here on post which existed
in both Scouting organizations. Each of the organizations, although
having a higher service echelon, had problems in various areas which
were unique to operating on a military post. Scouting units on military
installations are NOT
supported by the US Army, they are Private Organizations. The FKSC,
which consists of leaders from the Fort Knox Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts,
and Boy Scouts, and those scout units which are based on post, operates
much as a Regimental or Battalion headquarters would.
WHY A FKSC?
An organization that consists of other private organizations?
Why? The concept is not that abstract actually. Think of it like
the U.N.(only more effective) - one organization, consisting of
many nations . There are many things that the FKSC can do, or do
more easily, because of the combined effort of all the units, and
larger skill base, that would be harder for a single unit to do
(Future Leaders Day for example). Also, the FKSC was created to:
- Organize and provide a united body of scouts on Fort Knox,
from which to address issues affecting Scouting on post
- Work with Post, community, and higher inter-organizational
officials to resolve these issues
- Provide a forum for cooperation, assistance, information dissemination,
information and opportunity sharing, and event de-confliction
between organizations.
- Making distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt
organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code
- specifically to units of the Girl Scouts of the United States
of America (GSUSA) and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) which operate
on the Military Reservation of Fort Knox.
- To foster the advancement of youth education and development
through Scouting programs of the GSUSA and the BSA and provide
& coordinate events offered for the youth in these organizations
and the community.
- Combating community deterioration and providing community service
through coordinating efforts of the Fort Knox units of the GSUSA
and the BSA.
Incorporated as a Not for Profit Corporation in
the State of Kentucky, the Fort Knox Scouting Community Inc. has
also been designated as a Section 501 (c) (3) organization. The
