SLT SIMEX SCOUT BRACKET

This event would not be possible without the help of our SPONSORS

The Youth/Scout Bracket of the Scout Leadership and Teamwork Simulation, is designed to enhance the leadership skills being developed at the Troop and Patrol level. Obviously, everyone cant be the leader at the same time, so we are also going to emphasize that being a good 'follower' is important, and teamwork skills are paramount. Each Team will consist of 6 members.

The Simulation Exercise will consist of 4 stations:

  1. Platform Instruction - an instruction will speak on the principles of leadership, and teamwork, how they relate to Scouts, and how we use them in the Army - 30 minutes
  2. Planning - The Teams will move to a simulated TOC (Tactical Operactions Center) where they will recieve their mission and select their leaders, other team positions, and plan how to accomplish their mission. - 15 minutes
  3. Basic Training - Team members will familiarize themselves with the operation of the Simulation (the Americas Army Video Game) - 15 minutes
  4. Mission Execution in Team Area's - Team members will occupy their team systems, and execute the mission that they planned - 30 minutes

This event will be a closed LAN simulation, with 2 lanes, providing capability for 4 teams to operate at one time.

Units that Pre-registrer will be required, and we will begin registering teams on site at 10:00 after the opening ceremony. Max per team is 6, but if you do not have a full team, you can pair off with youth or scouts from another Patrol or Troop. Due to time constraints, we need to have all teams full. Due to system constraints, we are limited to 6 per team, we can not increase the team size.
  •   AAR - This is not one of the manned stations, but is a very important phase. This will be done with your Troop leader
  • We do not require that the Scoutmaster or Troop leader stay with a team, but we do require that an adult from the unit accompany them through the entire process. This will be important in the Planning and Execution phases of the operation, as the adult will assist in evaluating the teams.
  • During Phase 2 and 4, Teams should be able to exercise small unit leadership, and group dynamics with MINIMAL interference/guidance from adults.
  • It is recommended that teams try to load the simulation (the Americas Army Video Game) and practice using the game at their home location. There will only be 30 minutes of practice at the Basic Training station, and this may be reduced due to system constraints. If there are not enough Basic Training Systems, each boy may only get 15 minutes on a system for training. Having had practice prior to arrival will enable a team to focus on their plan.
First Teams to register & fill the primary slots will be in the SIMEX. All teams registering after the primary slots are filled will go on a Standby list. If a unit filling a primary slot cancels, we will move up the next team on the standby list, into the primary slot.
We currently have space for only 36 Teams in the Scout Bracket.
Online registration is available and you may contact the event coordinator at Operations@Knoxscouting.org if you desire to register before it is available on the website. Once slots are full, we're full.
