US Army Youth Certificates of Recognition

Girl and Boy Scout leaders and parents may nominate their scouts for this award (shown at the right) by completing an on-line application or by contacting their nearest U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion.

The following information is needed:

  • Scout's name
  • Date and time of ceremony
  • Name, phone number and E-mail address of the person making the request, and
  • Where the Certificate should be mailed (Name and full address)
  • If you would like a Recruiter to attend and present the certificate at the Ceremony, you may make that request, but they cannot promise that they will be able to comply.

US Air Force Youth Certificates of Recognition

U.S. Air Force Certificates of Recognition are awarded to America's Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts because Scouts' values are closely aligned with the Air Force core values: Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence In All We Do. Scout leaders or parents may nominate their scouts for this award (shown at the right) by completing an on-line application.

The following information is needed:

  • Scout's name, address, and birth date
  • Date of ceremony
  • Name, Troop Number and Title of the person making the request

Once the application has been completed, it will be referred to the U.S. Air Force Recruiting office nearest you where it will be processed and presented to your scout.  From the form, it appears that they will make personal contact, or send it direct to the Scout's home.

You can contact your local Air Force recruiter and have them present the certificate at the Court of Honor.  This is not a recruiting ploy, it is just easier to have a recruiter do it, unless you have a military base nearby.  As with the Army Certificate, above, they cannot promise that they will be able to comply.

U. S Flags - Flown over the Pentagon or the Capitol

Pentagon

U.S. Capitol

For a flag flown over the Pentagon the requestor must provide the flag. The request must be submitted 3 business days before date to be flown. Flags will not be flown on Holidays. When sending a flag through the mail, please be sure to insert return postage. The requestor should include the following information in their request:

1. The name of the person and organization.
2. The occasion
3. The date the flag should be flown.
4. Point of contact and a phone number.

Submit the written request to:

Defense Protective Service
Operations Branch Commander's Office
Washington HQ Services, Room 2E148
1155 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301-1155
Telephone: (703) 697-1288

You can purchase a US flag that has flown over the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C., by ordering it from your US Representative or Senator. In fact, this is the only way to purchase one of these flags.

Certificate of authenticity. You may request that your flag be flown on a certain date such as a birthday or anniversary. A certificate showing it was flown over the Capitol accompanies each flag. If you mention in your letter or on your request form that this flag is for any specific occasion, that information will be included on the certificate. If you are requesting a specific date, please make your request at least 4 weeks prior to that date.

Fabric and size of flags. All flags are made in the United States. The cotton flags come in two sizes: 3’x5’ or 5’x8’. The nylon flags come in the same size as the cotton and one additional size: 4’x6’.

Prices. According to a survey we recently conducted, the specific prices vary from office to office. The prices include only the costs of the flag itself, the certificate, and shipping and handling. The payment must be a check or money order made payable to the fund designated by the specific Congressional office.

Order information. Most web sites of Representatives and Senators have a page devoted to the process for ordering flags from their offices. Check for a link to "Constituent Services" or "Services" for the ordering information for that office. If you find that the web site does not tell how to order a flag, please call the State or field office of the member of Congress for the information.

U.S. Postal Service Certificates of Recognition

The United States Postal Service has a newly designed recognition certificate for presentation to new Eagle Scouts. The certificate shows the USPS logo and the (old) BSA logo. What makes this certificate special is a reproduction of the $.03 Boy Scouts of America commemorative stamp issued in 1950. To obtain a certificate, send your request, listing the name of the new Eagle Scout, to:

Mr. John E. Potter
Postmaster General/CEO
U.S. Postal Service
