Readers' Forum-Scouts seeking volunteers
for leadership positions
The Fort Knox scouting community is seeking
adult volunteers for leadership positions at all levels.
There are immediate needs for Brownie Girl
Scout leaders, according to Alice Wilson, the troop organizer for
the Fort Knox Girl Scout service unit.
According to Wilson, there are more than
forty girls on a waiting list, with very few adult volunteers
stepping forward to lead them.
In an effort to solicit parents, the
service unit plans to host Mrs. Spider's Tea Party, a Girl Scout and
leader recruiting program in mid-November.
Training is required for new leaders and is
available through the Girl Scout Council of Kentuckiana. The next
training for Brownie leadership is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 6:30
p.m., according to the council Web site, www.kyangs.org.
Adults as well as Cadet and Senior Girl
Scouts may attend the training free of charge at the Heartland Girl
Scout Service Center in Elizabethtown's Houchens Plaza Shopping
Center. Today is the deadline to sign up. Contact Paula Dumont at
(270) 769-5563 to register.
Age-level training, as well as leader
orientation and other requirements, are available semi-monthly at
the Heartland Service Center as well as at the Metro Service Center
in Louisville. Many courses are also available through
self-study.
To volunteer as a Girl Scout leader,
co-leader, or in any other capacity, contact Alice Wilson at (270)
828-2721 or quilterky@yahoo.com.
