Readers' Forum-Cub Scout den runs huge donation drive

On May 3 the Tiger Scouts of Den 8, Cub Scout Pack 127 at Fort Knox conducted a care package drive called "Support Our Troops."

The den collected seven huge cases of food, feminine products, toiletry items, music, etc. and $623 in cash donations.

Thanks to the generous cash donations to the American Red Cross by other organizations on Knox, we will be able to use all the cash collected to purchase more items such as socks, playing cards, batteries, boardgames, snack foods, sun screen, etc., and not have to spend any money for shipping.

We thank all those wonderful people who so selflessly donated to make the lives of our deployed fighting men and women a little more comfortable. Some donated just because they walked by when we were out in front of the commissary, while others came prepared to give with bags or boxes of items. One family brought several bags full of items and onto every one of those items they had written scriptures from the Bible or scripture references to uplift the soldiers.

We stand amazed at the generosity of this community. We are all inspired by the love and support shown.

Additional thanks are extended to the following who made this venture possible:

Ireland Hospital for reproduction support; the Turret for advertising support; Knox Garrison Command for use of the flashing Marquee at Chaffee Gate; the Knox commissary for allowing our use of their facility, boxes, etc.; ACS for permission to do this service project; and the American Red Cross which made all this possible. They are always there for the troops!

The Army is a great place to be. Nowhere else will you find such a strong and supportive extended family.

The Tigers of Den 8,

Cub Scout Pack 127
